Most repair complaints involve shops that overcharge, perform unauthorized or poor quality work, or fail to provide warranties. Here are some tips on choosing and dealing with auto repair shops:
Ask family, friends and co-workers for recommendations to find a reputable shop; choose an auto-repair shop that has convenient hours of operation and is close to where you live or work
If you are not offered a written estimate, go somewhere else; and once you find a repair shop you are satisfied with, stick with it.
Always get a written estimate before repairs begin. It should include: The name and address of both the customer and the repairer; the make, model, vehicle information number and license number of the vehicle; a thorough description of the repairs to be made; the parts that will be installed and whether they will be used, new or reconditioned; the total price of cost and labour; and the date the estimate was received, along with its expiration date. If you're still not sure, get a second opinion.
